Obituary

Reid, Howard Byers, 90, of Chesterfield, went to be with the Lord on October 12, 2009. A native of Zenda, VA, he was the son of the late Daniel B. and Flora N. Reid. He was preceded in death by five brothers and five sisters. In the 1930s, he started working for Mr. J.W. Marriott, Sr. in Washington, D.C. He served his country in the US Army during WWII, where he received the Purple Heart for his service during the Battle of the Bulge. Upon returning from military service, he made a career with D.C. Transit and retired from Washington Metropolitan Transit Authority in 1981. He was a member of Branchs Baptist Church. Survivors include Alyce H. Reid, his wife of 69 years; son and daughter-in-law, Howard B., Jr. and Sandra L. Reid, of Manteo, NC; daughter and son-in-law, Brenda G. and Harvey L. Stoner, Jr. of Barboursville, VA; grandchildren, Brian D. Reid of Washington, D.C., Jacob W. and Kimberly Reid of Arlington, VA, Christina E. and Mark A. Seale of Barboursville, VA, Nicholas D. Sachlis, and Jason T. Sachlis of Centreville, VA. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm Thursday. A funeral service will be held Friday at 2 pm at Branchs Baptist Church. Interment to follow at the church cemetery. The family suggests donations be made to Branchs Baptist Church, Benevolence Fund, 3400 Broad Rock Blvd., Richmond, VA 23234 or the Alzheimer’s Association, 4600 Cox Road, Suite 130, Glen Allen, VA 23060.
