Obituary

Jack Michael McKosky, 72, of Powhatan Virginia, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, January 30th, with his family by his side after a courageous battle with cancer.

He is survived by his wife, Sheila Joy McKosky, as well as his children; son Matthew McKosky and his wife Ashley, son Mark McKosky and his wife Katelyn, and his six grandchildren Luke, Chase, Evan, Isaiah, Scarlet, and Karis.

Jack was born to Mayre and Jacob McKosky on January 25, 1950, in Ohio.  He was a 1968 graduate from Barberton High school and went on to attend Akron University where he majored in English.  In 1971 he enlisted in the United States Armed Forces where he served until 1974.  After meeting and marrying the love of his life Sheila Joy DeMoss, they built a beautiful life centered around family and their mutual love for the Lord for the next 45 years.

Jack’s life was evidence of transforming grace. Everyone who knew him was a witness to the life-changing power of Jesus Christ. Jack lived a servant’s life and modeled a servant’s heart. He genuinely loved people and lifted them up with encouragement and faithful prayers. He invested in people, fed into their lives, and pointed them all to Jesus and His goodness. Jack had a deep love for the Word of God and the souls of men, and he devoted his life to both.  He volunteered for over 28 years in a prison ministry, served in his church, Southside, and would readily share his faith with anyone he came into contact with.  Jack was also a devoted husband, a committed father, and a delighted grandfather.  He loved his two boys – his two best friends – and shared a special bond with them.  He cherished his relationship with each of his grandchildren, tucking special memories into their hearts. He vacationed with them, taught them how to fish, played endless games of cards, and would always greet and leave them with, “Did anybody tell you they loved you today? Well, I love you, and Jesus loves you, and that’s the way it should be.”  Above all, he will always be known for his dedication to his bride, Sheila DeMoss McKosky. They walked through life together, side by side, building a beautiful legacy that will live on through their children and grandchildren.

Jack Michael McKosky – son of the King, devoted husband to the love of his life, Sheila, loving father to his two children, the best G-Pa to his six grandchildren, and a dear friend to all who knew him ran the race set out before him.

You finished well.

  1. Sheila, Matthew and Mark,
Coulter and I are very sorry to learn of Jack’s passing. Jack was a very nice person with a big and friendly personality. We know how much he will be missed by family and friends. We will remember him fondly as a YMCA Thunderbird swim team friend. I know the love, faith, and memories your family has of Jack, will sustain you through this difficult time. God Bless.

  2. Sheila and family, I am so sorry to hear of this loss. May God hold you in His arms and hug you tight.
