Obituary

James Franklin Wood Sr., 89, of Richmond, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, November 10, 2021.  He is survived by his beloved Son, James F. Wood, Jr.; Daughter, Stacy M. Hicks; Grandson, David Hicks (Wife Jamie); Two Granddaughters, Shelby Hicks, Jennifer Hicks; Four Sisters, Sue Wilkerson, Dorothy Wilkerson, Peggy Garrett, and Lucy Wilson; One Brother, Johnny Wood. James was preceded in death by his Beloved Wife, Audrey Mildred Huddleston Wood; Mother, Margaret Camden Wood; Father, William Henry Wood; Four Brothers, “Sonny” William Henry Wood III , “Gene” Eugene Wood, “Buddy” Steven Wood, and “Tiny” Walker Wood. 

Jim was born and raised in Farmville, VA. He enlisted in the US Air Force in 1950, was stationed in London, England and served as an airplane mechanic during the Korean war. Jim and Audrey married in 1959 and moved to Richmond, VA, soon after he began working for the federal government as a civil servant at the Defense General Supply Center until his retirement. Jim also retired as a Lieutenant with the Chesterfield County Special Police Department after nearly three decades of service.  

Jim enjoyed fishing, playing poker with his buddies and playing Santa Claus for the community for years at various events, and at family gatherings. Most importantly he was an admired Father, Grandfather, and friend who will be dearly missed.  Our hearts are broken but comforted that he is again with his devoted wife and loved ones who have gone before us to be with our Lord. The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm to 7:30 pm visitation with a reception 6-8 pm Thursday, November 18, 2021, at Morrissett Funeral & Cremation Service. His graveside service will be held 11:00 am on Friday, November 19, 2021, at Dale Memorial Park.
