Obituary
James Jim A. Spencer, 73 of N. Chesterfield, went to be with the Lord on Friday, February 21, 2014. A true man of honor, he lived a life that reflected his love for his Lord Jesus, as well as his love for his wife, his sons, his family, and a multitude of friends. Jim embraced this life when he was born on April 20, 1940. He married the love of his life—his best friend, Lorraine Turner, on June 14, 1959, and life for them was one life indeed, for their devotion to the Lord and to each other has been an amazing display to behold. Having been educated at UVA’s Virginia-Maryland Bankers School, LSU’s School of Banking of the South, Oklahoma University’s Commercial Lending School, and UVA’s Management Training School at Darden, Jimmy also received Pre-Standard, Standard, and Excellent Standard certification from the American Institute of Banking. Jimmy’s love and appreciation for his community were demonstrated by his service in many civic organizations. He served as a member and former president of South Richmond Rotary Club, a life member of Metro Richmond Chamber of Commerce, a member of Virginia Economic Development Council, Meadowbrook Country Club, Red Cross Board, Arts Council of Richmond Board, Salvation Army Board, Cross Over Ministry, and former chairman of Chesterfield Economic Development Council. A loving son and an exemplary brother and uncle, Jimmy was preceded in death by his father, James C. Spencer, his mother, Dot Spencer, his brother, Curtis Spencer, and his nephew, Stephen Spencer. A loving and devoted husband and father, Jimmy is survived by his precious wife, Lorraine, their two sons, Bradley (Brad, whose wife is Toni), Neil Chadwick (Chad), and a beloved dog, Barnabas (Barnes). He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Barbara, his brother, Stanley and his wife, Joan, his sister, Linda Hart and husband, Gene, in-laws galore, and many, many adoring nieces and nephews. Jimmy and Lorraine are members of Beulah United Methodist Church, where he taught a Sunday School class for more than 30 years—not just in word, but by the very way he lived his own life. His teaching and his love for the Lord have been instrumental in helping others to know Jesus and to live for Him. His memorial service will be held at 11
