Obituary

James Lloyd Morris, 88, of Chesterfield, VA went to be with the Lord on Thursday, February 5, 2026.  He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Anne Bottoms and his parents Melvin A. and Lettye M. Morris, his brother Arnold N. Morris.  Jim is survived by his children, Cheryl Anne Craig (Rusty), Catherine Anne Stainker (Keith), Melanie Rae Bennett (Chuck), and James Allynn Morris (Lisa); grandchildren, Charis Bostian (Jonah), Caleb Craig (Kandace), Brian Stainker (Jenny), Chris Stainker, Jennifer Ayers (Ashton), Meredith Clifford (Palmer), Adam Bennett (Mary Meghan), Nathaniel Morris, and Jack Morris. He is also survived by 17 great-grandchildren.

Jim was a 1956 graduate of Manchester High School, 1960 graduate of University of Richmond with a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology, a 1973 graduate of Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary with a Master of Theology. During his pastoral career, he served 7 churches throughout the state of VA from 1962 until his retirement in 1985.  Early in his career he enjoyed teaching Science, English, VA History, US Government, World Geography and Sociology,  He also enjoyed coaching Boys Basketball, Baseball and Track.  Upon retirement he became a Social Worker with Dinwiddie County.

Jim and Anne were avid world travelers as well as active members of Oak Forest Baptist Church.

A visitation will be held from 12 to 1 pm with Jim’s funeral service starting at 1 pm on Saturday, March 28, 2026 at Oak Forest Baptist Church, 5101 Courthouse Road; Chesterfield VA  23832.  Interment to follow at Dale Memorial Park.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to Oak Forest Baptist Church Pastoral Education.
