Obituary

Jerry F. Chandler, 82, of Chesterfield, Virginia was welcomed into the arms of Jesus on Wednesday, March 5, 2025. He was born on March 15,1942 in Richmond, Virginia to the late E. Franklin Chandler and Gladys Lewis Chandler.

He is survived by his loving wife and soulmate of 60 years, Trudy Chandler, who stood by his side faithfully during his battle with Alzheimer’s. Jerry was most proud of his family. His greatest blessings include his son, Tommy Chandler (Emily), daughter, Christy Hunter (Timothy) and three adoring grandchildren; Peyton (Scott), Noah and William.

Jerry shared many fond times with his only brother, Kenny Chander (Pat). Jerry was a lifelong dedicated servant of the Lord. Jerry listened with his heart, looking at life with creative excitement and spoke with honesty and conviction. Jerry laughed with his entire body. Jerry was an entrepreneur; during his teenage years you would find him on his tractor plowing fields around the neighborhood. Jerry was the owner of Chandler Shade Company for 40 years and during retirement he focused on a love of woodworking. He would ponder on a situation and take deliberate action, often times soliciting advice and knowledge from the respected figures in his life. Jerry recharged in the quiet calm that came with fishing alone, or in the companionship of fishing with others. He enjoyed taking a Sunday drive with family or friends, through the mountains or to Williamsburg. While Alzheimer’s slowly changed Jerry’s mental and physical body, he continued to provide his family and friends with comfort and times of clarity. Jerry never lost that ingrained memory of a special look, touch or phrase allowing friends and family to have no doubt about his awareness and understanding.

  1. David Harris says:

Jerry was my college room mate and a life long friend. We met several times after college in Asheville to visit with school friends, Dave and Peggy Beaman, to laugh about our experiences in college and try to keep up with our families changes. Jerry was a great college room mate and when he married Trudy it just made our friendship even better. Trudy has been the perfect wife and soulmate for Jerry with her love and support of him throughout his life. God bless you both as you adjust to the loss. I will stay in touch.
Continue to put your faith in God and he will see you through this difficult time in your life.
Love to you and your family. Dave Harris

Dear Trudy and family, I’m so sorry for your loss and I’ve been praying for you and your family that God will give you the comfort and peace you need. Jerry was a great husband, father, grandfather to all his children and grandchildren. Knowing he’s with God now and not suffering anymore I know brings you great peace, we love you so much, Katherine Hunter and Laura Woolwine
