Obituary

Jesse had a deep appreciation for the outdoors and the simple joys of life. An avid hunter for much of his life, he treasured every opportunity to spend time at the hunt club in Buckingham, Virginia, a place that became his second home for more than 60 years. Some of his most cherished memories were made there alongside his son and grandson, sharing time outdoors and passing down traditions that will continue for generations. Whether he was in the woods before sunrise, sharing laughter around the cabin, or simply enjoying the quiet beauty of the land, those moments brought him peace and lifelong friendships.

Perhaps what Jesse will be remembered for most was his gift for storytelling. He had a story for every occasion and a way of bringing people together with his humor, warmth, and unforgettable tales. Whether recounting hunting trips, family memories, or moments from years gone by, he could captivate a room and leave everyone smiling. Beyond his stories, Jesse was known for his unwavering determination and, if you asked those who loved him most, a stubborn streak that only added to his charm.

Jesse found great joy in the time spent surrounded by family. Holiday gatherings and family reunions were some of his favorite moments, bringing together the people he loved most. He enjoyed gathering around the table with his brothers, sisters, and other loved ones to play Setback, share stories, and enjoy the simple pleasures of good food and good company. He loved cooking for his family, especially his famous fried chicken and banana pudding, which became cherished traditions at family reunions.

He also shared his wife Dorty’s love of horses, spending countless hours by her side at horse shows, competitions, and at the barn. Their years together reflected a partnership built on love, devotion, and shared adventures. After twelve years apart, Jesse is finally reunited with the love of his life, Dorty.

Above all, Jesse was a devoted husband, father, and Papa. His greatest pride was his family, and their time spent together created memories that will be cherished for generations. His quiet strength, steady presence, kind heart, and unforgettable stories will continue to live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know and love him.

Jesse is survived by his children, Donald Brown (Deborah) and Debra Brown (Ken); sister, Margaret James (Jimmy); brother, Billy Brown (Joyce); sister-in-law, Cynthia Napier (Dickie); grandchildren, Tara Pai (David Keeton), Donald Brown Jr. (Kristen), and Jessica Brown (Brad Sprouse); great-grandchildren, Chaley Pai-Bedell, RipKen Crisp and, Cora Crisp.

The family will receive guests from 5:00-7:00 pm on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, at Morrissett Funeral & Cremation Service, 6500 Iron Bridge Rd., N. Chesterfield, VA 23234. Jesse’s graveside service will take place at 11:00 am on Thursday July 16, 2026, at Wheeler Family Cemetery, 9160 Old Green Mountain Rd., Esmont, VA 22937.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be given to the Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources, Virginia’s Non-Game Program, in honor of Jesse’s love of the outdoors.
