Obituary
Joe Lee Sage, 94, of Chesterfield, VA. “Grievanceman”. Joe passed away at home with Teresa and Billy by his side. Born July 5, 1931, in Pageton, WV to Robert and Nettie Sage. Preceded in death by siblings; Margaret Sage, Robert Sage, Jr. (Marie), Dorothy Clements (Bill), and Patricia Horn (Walt). Joe was also preceded in death by his former wife of 55 years, Patricia Callahan Sage. Joe is survived by his children; Robert Jackson (Pam), Patricia Breig (Rohn), and Teresa Sage-Noxon (Bill). Joe is survived by his granddaughter Kiki Gilmer (Barry) and great granddaughters; Gabrielle Velez, Abby and Skyla Gilmer, and many more grandchildren and great grandchildren. Joe also leaves behind nephews; Danny Sage(Debbie), and Jeff Sage (Janet), Rubin Alley (Kathleen) and niece, Laura Hatfield (Ricky).
Joe was a Truck Driver for over 60 years, and a Teamster for Local 299 out of Detroit. MI. Joe proudly worked as a Union Steward, hence his CB handle “Grievanceman”. Joe was a U.S. Army Veteran and Mason from the Pageton, WV Masonic Lodge.
Joe loved westerns, ice cream, old cars, and especially his pets; having at one time, 3 dogs, 3 cats, and 3 birds. Joe especially loved the Welsh Corgi breed.
The family would like to thank AT Home Health and Hospice Care for all the care, support and guidance they provided; especially for the wonderful care from Karen, Ashley, Asia, Hailey, and Danielle.
Joe will be taken back to West Virginia to be buried with his family. There will be a graveside service in the Mausoleum on Tuesday the 30th of September at 12 noon at Woodlawn Memorial Park, 3410 Coal Heritage Rd., Bluefield, WV. Pastor Sam Walsh will be officiating. In lieu of flowers please make any memorial contributions to Advent Christian Church – Princeton, 706 Prince St, Princeton, WV 24740 which Joe considered his church family while he lived in Princeton. Morissett Funeral and Cremation Service is handling the arrangements.

I was so fortunate to work with Joe on the purchase of his home on Prince Street. My husband and I thought the world of him, often visiting with him at his home. Joe was always so friendly when we would see him around town, often at the bank and Kroger. We loved hearing his when he was a teamster.
Please know how sorry we were to hear about Joe’s moving and passing. I’m so glad that he had several years to enjoy the sweet little house on Prince Street- appropriate named for this Prince of a guy❤️❤️❤️

I met Joe in November of 2022 while at Encompass Health Rehab Hospital in Princeton, WV. I was there recovering after a knee replacement and going through physical therapy. Joe was there recovering from a procedure as well. We struck up a conversation , and boy did he bless me with his life story. I asked him if I could record to post on Facebook. He allowed me to do that, and I have the video if anyone is interested in it. He was a really great guy right from the start. Very kind and encouraged me to press on with getting better although he was experiencing a physical hardship himself. He talked of his trucking career, and life in general. His testimony will bless you. I wish I could upload it here. Rest in peace, Joe. It was great meeting you!
