Obituary

Joey Allen Williams, 67, passed away surrounded by his family on July 20, 2026, in Richmond, Virginia.

Joey was born on June 11, 1959, in Richmond, Virginia, to Rebecca and John Williams, Sr.

Joey graduated from Manchester High School in 1977. He started his career in Telecommunications in 1978 and was currently working for Johnston-Willis Hospital in the IT department.

Joey married Janet Johnson on September 17, 1982, in Richmond, Virginia. The couple had two children, Jessica and Justin.

Joey was happiest when he got to spend time with his loved ones. Whether that was camping, watching NASCAR or football in the garage with friends and family, or cheering on his grandchildren at their games, Kalynn on the softball field, Callie on the soccer field, and Colton, who was just starting T-Ball. Joey was always someone you could rely on. No matter what the circumstances were, Joey would be there to lend a helping hand or a piece of advice, which usually was “always be smarter than what you are working on.”

Joey is survived by his wife and best friend of 43 years, Janet Williams, who was always there for him, no matter what.

He is also survived by his children, Jessica (Matt) Bareford, and Justin (Tara) Williams, brothers John Douglas (Jody) Williams, Jr., and Irving (Janet) Williams, brother-in-law William Lewis (Lucindy) Johnson, nephew Jamie (Gretchen) Williams, nieces Jennifer (Joe) Greene, Nicole (Chase) Johnson-Wingo, and Brittany Johnson, grandchildren Kalynn Bareford, and Callie and Colton Williams, as well as several family members and close friends.

Joey is preceded in death by his parents and nephew, Jason Williams.

A visitation in Joey’s honor will be held on Sunday, August 2, 2026, at 1:00 PM at Morrissett Funeral and Cremation Service, 6500 Iron Bridge Road, North Chesterfield, Virginia, 23234, followed by a memorial service at 2:00 PM. Family will receive friends for a brief reception at the funeral home following the memorial service.
