Obituary

With heavy hearts we announce the passing of our cherished, John Joseph Francis Augustine, Jr. John was loved and adored and will be deeply missed by all his family and friends.

John will be passionately mourned by his loving wife, Beverly, of 45 years. His two daughters, Jan Augustine and Jill Augustine (Justin Crabtree Sr.); grandchildren, Lukas Clatterbuck, Justin Jr., Ireta and Willow; sister, Sharon Augustine, numerous brothers and sister of Beverly, as well as their wives and husbands; uncle, Cleveland Anderson; and aunt, Judy Anderson.

John and his wife owned and operated two beauty salons and day spas. He was a professional businessman and a talented artist. He donated his business and time to many local charities over the years.

John was a Jack of Trades and could fix or build most anything. He would lend a hand to anyone in need.

When his daughters swim team needed a coach, he took all the steps necessary to become one for them. He went as far as getting his certification to referee for the Olympics.

John loved to vacation and fish in Nags Head, NC, with his family and friends. He would catch the Bluefish Blitz every chance he got. He loved adventure and travel, and that he did with his wife, family, and friends.

John was not only an Eagle Scout, but an Eagle Palm. Which are awards given to Eagle Scouts to recognize additional merit badges earned beyond the 21 required for the Eagle rank.

John was a self-made chef and gardener. Coming from Italian Polish decent, his dishes were 5 star! He cooked with love for all his family and friends.

His greatest attribute would be his abundant love of his family. He showed it every day in every way. John leaves behind his beautiful wife, Beverly Augustine; daughters, Jan Augustine and Jill Augustine; sister, Sharon Augustine; uncle, Cleveland Anderson; aunt, Judy Anderson; brothers-in-law, Bill Hallman, Ben Hallman (Selena), and Samuel Hallman; sister-in-law, Mindy Hallman (Denny Tisher); nieces and nephews, William Hallman (Tabitha), Jeanette Harman (Joe), Jacki Hallman, Devin Boyd (Michael), Mollee Hallman, Samantha Vaughan (George), and Daniel Hallman; cousins, Patricia Celuch, Katheleen Anderson, Andrew Anderson (Carrie Ray), Daniel Sealock, and Debra Kay Sealock.

John will be greatly missed by his dear friends and clients.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

He is Not Gone

Ease your grief, he is not gone

For in your heart, he lingers on.

His smile, his laugh, his special way,

Will comfort you, from day to day.

You’ll feel his presence in the breeze,

That dances gently, through the trees,

And it’s his face that you shall see,

When you’re in need of company.

At any time, you can recall,

The loved you shared…you saved it all.

And in time, more than anything,

You’ll find peace in remembering.

  1. I grew up with Bev and Mo as next door neighbors. They were like family to us, really. We gathered for holidays, summers, snow days — the Augustines were there through it all. The biggest conversations I remember having with Mo all centered around music. I will never forget him telling me, as I turned my attentions to pop music at about age 12 — “Well, Jenny, at least you don’t like country music any more!” 🙂 As I grew older, our musical conversations continued — when my musical tastes turned towards artists like The Beatles, John Lennon, and James Taylor, I remember having some really great talks with Mo about the content and quality of the songs. I thought he was the COOLEST because he had been at Woodstock and seen The Doors live! (He even made me a Doors mix tape of all his favorite songs!) The point of all of this is to say that even though I was just a kid, Mo always made time for me. He didn’t talk down to me, but always treated me like what I had to say was valuable. I never forgot that. To the Augustines, I say– I love you with all my heart, and I am heartbroken by the loss of your dear Mo. All of the memories I have of him, and of our families’ good times together are so positive and sweet, and I am thankful. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

  2. Mo, you were so much fun & loved being a friend to everyone. Life was full with you in it. We were happy to see the photos of your family over the years that you & Bev shared. We know they were important & received only the best from you. We will always smile reminiscing our memories with you. Rest well our dear friend.
