Obituary
Joseph Stanley Fredrich “Big Joe” went to be with the Lord Friday, October 10th 2025 at 95 years of age. Big Joe was a devoted husband, a loving father, and an extraordinary grandfather. He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Betty Fredrich in 2013 and by his only son, Joseph S. Fredrich Jr. (Jojo) in 2011. He leaves behind two daughters; Janet Marie Vaughan and Bettie Jo Swinson, six grandchildren; Matthew Fredrich, Amy Jarvis (Russ Jarvis), James Childress (Melissa Childress), Courtney Vaughan, Erin Morse (Ricky Morse), and Jessica Swinson. As well as nine great-grandchildren; Callie, Keagan, Loran, Will, Mason, Benton, Abigail, Carter, and Elizabeth.
Big Joe was an avid outdoorsman with a keen interest in hunting and fishing. Throughout his life, Big Joe spent his free time in the woods hunting with his friends, son, son-in-law, and grandchildren, on the James and Chickahominy fishing with the Dixie Capital Bass Masters, on the softball fields with his daughters and in his backyard playing highly competitive games with his family during the many cookouts hosted by his loving wife.
Aside from hunting and fishing, his third favorite thing to do was to teach his grandchildren how to shoot (a bbgun, shotgun, bow & arrow, or a slingshot) which they perfected on a tin can in his backyard and how to fish. His daily activities depended upon the time of the year; the spring and summer consisted of fishing and cookouts, the late summer and early fall were spent prepping for the upcoming hunting season, his fall and winter were filled with endless hunting trip and the rest of the time, he spent cleaning, prepping, and fixing his fishing and hunting gear.
Big Joe was a staple in the lives of many and he will be greatly missed. The family will receive guest from 6:00-8:00 pm on Thursday, October 16 at Morrissett Funeral & Cremation Service. In lieu of flowers, please consider planting a tree in his memory, donating to a wildlife conservation or taking a kid either hunting or fishing.

I am sorry to hear about Big Joe’s passing. Every time I see or hear his name I can’t help but think about when Amanda and Courtney were babies/toddlers and Boopie watched them, they would wait at the door for Big Joe to come home and when he would pull up, they would be so happy and excited, banging on the door “b-joe, b-joe, b-joe” over and over. I can picture it in my head to this day and it always makes me smile. I’m happy to have that memory, sending much love and hugs to Big Joe’s family,
Lynn Marie
