Obituary

Martin, Joseph E., 96, of Richmond, passed away in his home of 70 years on Monday, November 15, 2010. He was preceded in death by the love of his life, his wife of 65 years, Louise Jennings Martin, and his brothers, William Henry, James Harold, and Frank Frederick Martin. He is survived by his daughter, Beverly M. Bell and husband Thomas; son, Kenneth E. Martin and wife Jo Ann; two grandsons, Shannon T. (Sean) Donovan and Joseph Layne Donovan; great-granddaughter, Autumn Nicole Donovan; and sister, Dora Weaver. Joe was a long-time member of Webber Memorial Baptist Church and served as a deacon there for many years. He was an exemplary husband, father, grandfather, and friend. When he was able to lead an active life, he strove to do at least one good deed for someone each and every day. Most of the time, he did more than one good deed a day, sometimes for total strangers. His entire life was about sharing with others. Whether it was the delicious vegetables out of his huge garden or his great mechanical knowledge of how to fix a car, an air conditioner, or a plumbing problem, he was always willing to help a friend, a neighbor, or a family member and expected nothing in return. He had the ability to fix just about anything. He will be greatly missed but never forgotten. He will live in our hearts forever. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 pm and 6 to 8 pm Friday at the Morrissett Funeral Home, 6500 Iron Bridge Rd. (Rt. 10). His funeral service will be held 11 am Saturday at the funeral home. Interment to follow at Sunset Memorial Park.
