Obituary

Joseph H. Hanchey Jr., 88, passed away on August 10, 2025, in North Chesterfield, VA. He is survived by his sons; Lee Hanchey, and Joseph (Cathy) Hanchey III, his brother, Robert “Bobby” (Cindy) Hanchey, grandchildren; Herman Wesley (Emily) Helberg III, and Crystal (Merv) Helberg, and great-grandchildren; Brock L. Lingle, and Lars D. Lingle. Joseph is preceded in death by his fiancé, Kathleen P. Jennette,  father Joseph Hanchey Sr., his mother Dorothy N. Hanchey, sister Dorothy “Dot” (Donnie) Newton, and daughter, Pamela Helberg.

Joseph graduated with a BS in Business Administration from the University of Richmond in 1960 and went on to dedicate many years of hard work to Flight Research Inc. where he served as president. Joseph also took on other business ventures including co-owning The Farmhouse Restaurant, a beloved local spot he proudly ran with his brother, Bobby.   He was a passionate outdoorsman who found joy in the quiet moments of deer and duck hunting, casting a line on the water, and walking the fairways as an avid golfer. He will be remembered for his adventurous spirit, strong work ethic, and deep love for family and the great outdoors.

A visitation for Joseph will be held on Thursday, August 21, 2025, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Morrissett Funeral & Cremation Service, 6500 Iron Bridge Rd, North Chesterfield, VA 23234. His funeral service will take place the following day, Friday, August 22, 2025, at 10:30 AM at the funeral home, with interment to follow at Sunset Memorial Park, 2901 W Hundred Rd, Chester, VA 23831. Following the burial, the family welcomes guests to a reception at Morrissett from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM.
