Obituary

Joseph “Moe” Krajewski, a beloved husband, brother, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away from cancer on February 3, 2026, at the age of 78. He was born on September 5, 194,7 in Shamokin, PA, to Francis and Mary (Jones) Krajewski, who preceded him in death. He attended St. Edward’s Catholic Grade School, the Lincoln School, and Shamokin High School.

Moe grew up in Shamokin’s fifth ward, where he enjoyed playing baseball at Danny Shade’s, dancing at the Patsy Steps playground on Rock St., and hanging out with friends at Red’s Poolroom. As a youth, he shined shoes all over town and picked pins at a local bowling alley to earn spending money. As an adult, he was a volunteer firefighter at the Independence Fire Association, where he was a life member. He was also a member of the Pastime Club, Redman Club, West End Fire Company, and the Shamokin Moose Lodge.

At the age of 17, Moe proudly enlisted in the U.S. Army. He served from September 30, 1964, until September 11, 1967, achieving the rank of Sergeant. He received the Occupation Medal for his service in the Berlin Brigade and was honored with the National Defense Service Medal as a marksman. He later served in the U.S. Navy from September 20, 1968, to September 16, 1970, where he helped decommission the USS Turner DD/DDR834. He joined the Pennsylvania Army National Guard on August 2, 1975, and served until his military retirement on August 1, 1996. His military service was a point of pride in his life, and he carried the values learned during those years into his personal and professional endeavors.

In 1980, he met the love of his life, Carol Bucanelli. They moved from Shamokin, PA, to Chesterfield, VA in 1998, and they eloped to the Outer Banks of North Carolina on March 13, 2000. They celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary in 2025.

While living in Shamokin, Moe worked at the Shamokin Shoe Factory, the Independence Fire Association, and as a certified nursing assistant at Mount Carmel Nursing Center and Mountain View Manor Nursing Home. While living in Chesterfield, VA, Moe worked as a groundskeeper at Chesterfield Village. He retired in 2007 and began volunteering at McGuire Veterans’ Hospital in Richmond.

Moe was an avid fan of the Philadelphia Eagles, passionately rooting for his team through every season. He was also a fan of the Philadelphia Phillies and Penn State Football. He enjoyed simple pleasures like playing video games and going out for brunch or ice cream on the weekends. He also liked talking with friends at the Chesterfield Moose Lodge.

Moe is survived by his devoted wife, Carol Krajewski; his daughter, Dawn Herb; and multiple grandchildren, including Brandon Herb, Marissa Ferenchak (Ryan), Seth Herb, Brenda Lee Herb, Robin Cole, and great-grandson Jude Ferenchak. He also leaves behind brothers Ed and Bob Krajewski, sisters Carol Daddario and Peggy Kern (Greg), as well as brother-in-law Rich Tarr and sister-in-law Betty Kreski.

Moe was preceded in death by brother Frank Kreski, sister Mary Frances Tarr, infant son Gary Lee Krajewski, infant daughter Brenda Lee Krajewski, brother-in-law Gary Daddario, and sister-in-law June Krajewski.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
