Obituary

Joy T. Thornton, 60, of Richmond, went home to be with our Lord on Tuesday, December 29th, 2020. She was born on September 20, 1960 to Nancy M. Thornton and Wilson E. Thornton Sr. She was preceded in death by brothers, Thomas L. Thornton (Tommy) and Wilson E. Thornton Jr (Eddie). She is survived by her siblings, Gay T. Bryant and Timothy L. Thornton (Timmy); nephews, Matthew A. Thornton, Brian L. Thornton, and Christopher C. Thornton; grandniece, Jessica A. Thornton; and a large extended family whom she leaned on and cared for deeply. Joy was a graduate of John F. Kennedy High School. After graduating, Joy pursued a career in nursing where she was often recognized and awarded for her work ethic and willingness to go above and beyond the call of her duties. Joy loved spending time with children and her two dogs, Star and Jessy. She could often be found gardening, working on her crafts, or soaking up the sun on the beach. Joy was a standing member of Branch”™s Baptist Church. We will forever treasure her memory in our hearts and carry the lessons she taught us throughout our lives. The family wishes to thank her longtime caretaker, Regina Randall for her years of dedicated service and excellent care. Please join us in celebrating her life on Friday evening, January 15th, between 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm at Morrissett Funeral and Cremation Services, 6500 Iron Bridge Road (Rte. 10). Memorial services will take place Saturday morning, January 16th at 11:00 am at Morrissett Funeral and Cremation Service. 3. Talked with you on Christmas. Then the 29th came and I read the Lord came and took you to Heaven. He needed another Angel. Joy thankyou for being a dear friend to me..always had a way to lift me up. I will NEVER forget you. May your spirit come visit from time to time until we meet again! Love you!

  4. I became your home health aide back in 2010 and over these years we became great friends. I could talk to you about anything and you would listen without judgment. I’m gonna miss you Joy. I will always remember our times together. God Bless You! Love you!!

  5. You left this world way too soon. When I first arrived at Branch’s Sunday School class you patted the seat next to you. At that point we were bound together, forever. I loved you and learned from you. I am happy that you are no longer in pain but I want you here with me! My heartfelt sympathy is with your family and friends. All of God’s Blessings to you and yours.
    Debbie
