Obituary
Joyce Ann Bakoss, 76, went home to be with the Lord on January 10, 2026. She is preceded in death by her parents, Seaborn and Bess Carter, and her brother Robert Edward Carter. Joyce is survived by her loving husband, John Louis Bakoss, son, John Michael Bakoss, daughter, Kathryn Ann Moseley; and grandson, Casey Carter Browning.
During her life on this earth, Joyce was a dutiful and diligent Christian, wife, mother, and citizen. In her own quiet way, she expressed by example values and qualities that don’t always translate from words to deeds. She was a loving mother, faithful wife, and reliable partner in every sense, whether inside or outside the home.
Joyce was born and raised in Huntington, WV, where she graduated from Marshall University with a Bachelor of Science degree in biology. As a young wife, she did volunteer work for public schools attended by her children. Later, she did lab work to help with college and other household expenses. Her most favorite activity was choir membership, but she also enjoyed travel that included scenic and historical destinations, as well as volunteer work for the Richmond Animal League.
Of course, she will be missed by friends and family who know and love her. But we do not think of her in the past tense because we know the sacrifice of our Lord Jesus will make her a welcome citizen of God’s perfect Kingdom.
A memorial service to celebrate Joyce’s life on earth will be scheduled at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that contributions be made to Branch’s Baptist Church.

Joy was a very special cousin to me. She was so sweet and kind. We always had a good time when we were young. Her parents, Uncle Seab and Aunt Bess would bring her and Bob to Alabama to visit in the summer. They would rent a cabin down at Panama City and the Carter Family would go to the beach and spend time with them. We had a lot of fun!! I will miss communicating with her. I know that she is in God’s hands. Prayers and love go to John, Mike, Kathy and Casey.
