Obituary

Joyce Melton passed away January 10, 2024. She was born February 4, 1945 to Clarence William Martin Sr. and Bertha Mae (Reames) Martin. She graduated from Manchester High School in 1963 and then worked as a pediatric nurse and office manager for 42 years. Joyce loved camping and the beach, was a lifetime member of Branch’s Baptist Church, and enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.

Joyce was preceded in death by her husband, James D. Melton Sr. (Donald) and her parents.

Left to cherish her memory include her husband, James A. Bass; son, James D. Melton Jr. (Vonda); granddaughter, Jacquelyn (“Jacq”); sister, Judy Kincheloe (Paul); brother, C.W. Martin (Diane); two nieces, Sherri Kincheloe and Tammy Martin; a nephew, Bobby Martin; and numerous grand-nieces, grand-nephews, cousins, and friends.

Due to Emergency the services will no longer be held at Branch’s Baptist Church. In response to this news the services will take place at Belmont Methodist Church 3510 Broad Rock Blvd. Richmond VA, 23234 : Visitation will take place 10am-11am, Thursday, January 18, 2024. A funeral will follow at 11am. The Burial will take place 10am Friday, January 19, 2024 at Dale Memorial Park.

  1. My sincerest condolences to her family and My Uncle Jimmy ! I know he loved her and took the very best care of her in their short time together. ❤️

  2. My deepest sympathy to Jim/Vonda and Jacqueline Melton as I know they have have loved and honored Jim’s parents as they took care of both Donald and Joyce throughout they’re lives. My condolences to Joyce’s recent husband, Jimmy as well. Joyce will be missed. I have witnessed Jim Melton work tirelessly caring for Joyce when they sold their home and built a new home to live with and care for Joyce. May God Bless, comfort and provide all that is needed.
