Obituary

Karen Sue Gerber. January 10, 1952 – July 12, 2025

Our small world has lost one of its brightest points of light. Known for her acerbic humor, beauty and intelligence, Karen has left behind a world of loving friends and family grieving her loss, and a legacy of laughter and accomplishment. From Phi Beta Kappa, and the top echelons of the insurance industry, to CASA and a “retirement” that saw her as an insurance examiner for the Commonwealth of Delaware, Karen excelled at all she endeavored. Karen was a woman of faith, deep determination and a fierce strength who quietly carved her way to the top with grace and grit. Of generous spirit she was an avid reader, gardener and storyteller of the first order and had us all in stitches recounting her “Travels with Mom” through Europe as well as many other side splitting stories.  Her legacy will undoubtedly live on through the laughter and love she shared with those around her.  As we gather to remember her vibrant spirit, we are reminded of the countless ways she touched our lives and the joy she brought to every moment.

Karen was predeceased by her husband, Warren, and is survived by daughters, Kelly Ann and Abigail; granddaughter, Annie (Arial) Cobarrubia; a loving sister, Kay Guatier (Mick); her companion Doug Sincair; and countless other nephews, nieces and cousins. A celebration of Karen’s life will be held at a later date to be announced. In lieu of flowers and cards donations should be made to St Jude Children’s Hospital. Rest in Peace beloved Karen.

  2. The tribute from the family encapsulates all that is Karen. It is both beautiful and accurate. She was one of the funniest and classiest people I could ever hope to work with or know. Her stories were so funny, but the way she told them always added that extra chef’s kiss. I knew when the hair was being pulled behind the ear a great punchline was approaching. Karen is a friend I will truly miss, and this world will not be the same without that wry, mischievous smile.

  3. I remember the first time I met Karen. Warren and I were on top of dad’s house on Walena Dr. helping him do a reroof job. With a beer in one hand and a hammer in the other, I look up and here comes a young girl up the driveway riding her horse! I thought you don’t see that very often. She’ll be missed.
