Obituary

Kenneth Reid “Kenny” Payne, 79, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 28, 2025, in Richmond, Virginia, surrounded by loved ones.

Born December 9, 1945, in Chesterfield, Kenny lived a vibrant life rooted in family, faith, and community. He worked and retired from the Virginia Department of Transportation, but his true joy came from sharing beauty — whether through festive holiday decorating, chauffeuring friends on adventures, connecting with special neighbors, or his daily walks watching the wildlife along the James River. With an eye for style and a heart full of warmth, Kenny lit up every room and never met a stranger.

He was preceded in death by his beloved best friend and former spouse, Charlene Payne; parents, Rebecca and Marion Payne; brother, Harold; and sister, Anita. He is lovingly remembered by his daughters, Jennifer Payne and Kristen Gregor; Son-in-Law, Ryan Gregor, granddaughter, Alayna Dumet; and a large circle of family and friends.

Kenny’s life was a joyful celebration of connection and kindness. He will be deeply missed and forever cherished.

A memorial gathering will be held from 5:00-7:00 pm on Friday, October 3 at Morrissett Funeral & Cremation Service, 6500 Iron Bridge Rd., N. Chesterfield, VA 23234. Kenny’s graveside service will be held later in November at Second Branch Baptist Church Cemetery.
