Obituary

Larry Gene Young, born February 9, 1933 in Rock, West Virginia, passed away on August 11, 2021. He is Preceded in death by his parents, Fred W. and Hailey Young, his sister Naomi Hankins, and his brother Fred Young, Jr. He is survived by his Wife of 43 years, Keaw Young, his 3 Sons, their families and numerous grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Larry was the first in his family to graduate from a university, graduating from West Virginia University in 1954 with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and in 1956 with a Master of Arts in Political Science. His first job took him out of West Virginia working in the State of Pennsylvania Budget Office until he was hired in 1963 by The Public Administration Services (PAS) out of Chicago, IL. Larry”™s first assignment within PAS was a Bureau Chief in Monrovia, Liberia, working closely with Liberia”™s President Tubman. His subsequent assignments with PAS took him around the world where he worked with Kings and Presidents in Afghanistan, East Pakistan (now Bangladesh), Egypt, Indonesia, Nepal, Philippines, and Thailand. During his career, one of his notable assignments was reviewing Egypt”™s President Anwar Sadar”™s 5-year economic plan. After retiring in the Richmond, Virginia area, he had the pleasure of helping many international nursing students attending Virginia Commonwealth University refine their master”™s thesis and doctoral dissertations who he took great pleasure in helping. The family wants to recognize and thank Bobby Hankins, His nephew, for all the years helping Dad and Keaw, and especially during this trying time.
