Obituary

Lauren “Laurie” Marie Down, 66, of N. Chesterfield, VA went to be with the Lord on Thursday, December 28, 2023. She was preceded in death by her father, Donald Hinkle. Laurie is survived by her husband, David Alan Down; mother, Cecilie Waer; son, Daniel Aaron Down; daughter, Rosalie Elizabeth Down; brother Donald Hinkle-Brown; sister, Jody Fix; brother-in-law, John “Fred” Down and Edward Griswold Down.

Laurie started her career as a lab technician before becoming a pharmaceutical rep. Then she opened her own bakery, Downright Good Custom Cake Designs at her home in Phoenixville, PA where she also homeschooled the children. She was event coordinator at a nursing home in Pottstown, PA and entertained the residents with fun games and activities. Following, the family relocated to Virginia for David’s career as a technical writer, first in Powhatan and then Chesterfield. Laurie worked at Arby’s and later at Walgreens where she was employed for 17 years.

Laurie had a passion for knitting, quilting, counted cross stitching, and Pennsylvania Dutch sensibilities.

Christmas was her holiday, she loved making cookies and biscotti and handmade gifts for loved ones. Around the holiday, Laurie was active with the church charity, Operation Christmas Child, shoes boxes full of care, toys, and the gospel.

A visitation will be held from 2-4 pm on Sunday, January 7^th at Morrissett Funeral & Cremation Service, 6500 Iron Bridge Rd., N. Chesterfield, VA 23234. Laurie’s funeral service will be held at 12:00 pm on Monday, January 8^th at Heritage Baptist Church, 7777 Cogbill Rd., N. Chesterfield, VA 23832. Interment Dale Memorial Park.
