Obituary

Vaughan, Laverne Marie, 67, of Colonial Heights, went to be with the Lord on Monday, October 25, 2010. She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Paul Vaughan; daughters and sons-in-law, Cynthia and James Boyd, Pamela and David Genske; sister and brother-in-law, Mildred and Ralph Wilson; brother and sister-in-law, Vernon and Starr Miles; grandchildren, Elise and her husband Jesse, Christopher, and Reagan; and a great-grandchild, Margot. She was preceded in death by her mother and father, William H. and Leona Miles; and a sister, Rebecca. Laverne graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in Portsmouth and attended college at Tidewater Community College. She retired from QVC Network after retirement from the Virginia Beach School System. She was a private music instructor and musician. She was an active member of the Red Hat Society and Webber Memorial Baptist Church. Laverne was a disaster volunteer with the Suffolk City Red Cross. She particularly enjoyed helping the elderly and children in need. The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday (today) at Morrissett Funeral Home, 6500 Iron Bridge Road (Rte. 10). A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Webber Memorial Baptist Church. The family suggests donations to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 11454, Alexandria, VA 22312, or Hope Heaven Children’s Home, 3000 N Landing Rd, Virginia Beach, VA 23456.
