Obituary

Kanak, Lawrence, age 90, entered his heavenly home on December 17, 2009. Lawrence was born November 13, 1919, in Prince George, VA, to John and Amelia Kanak. He attended school and grew up on his family’s farm in Prince George with his 10 siblings. He was preceded in death by his brothers, John, Henry, George, Dan, and Bill, and sisters Helen, Christine, Agnes, and Rose. He is survived by his wife, who was the love of his life and best friend for over 62 years, Lonie P. Kanak. He is also survived by his dear brother Ben Kanak of Prince George, VA, his brother-in-law, Robert Pugh of Durham, NC, devoted nephews Stephen Lawrence Tyson and John Thomas Tyson, his wife Vickie, and their children John Thomas Tyson Jr. and Jennifer Lynn Tyson. He leaves behind numerous other nieces and nephews, who loved him dearly. He was the owner of Rackleys Radio and TV Company in Hopewell, VA, for over 40 years and was actively involved in the VA Professional Electronics Association, where he served as secretary and president of the Tri-Cities Chapter. He was also a member of Meadowbrook Country Club. He re-dedicated his life to Christ several years ago and was a member of Walmsley Blvd. United Methodist Church, where he was a trustee and member of the Administrative Council. Lawrence will always be remembered for his warm hugs, endearing smile, and kind and generous spirit. He was a true gentleman and had a heart for people. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him. Visitation will be Monday, December 21, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Morrissett Funeral Home, 6500 Iron Bridge Rd. (Rt. 10). Services will be held on December 22 at 11:00 a.m. at Walmsley Blvd. United Methodist Church. Interment to follow at Sunset Memorial Park. Contributions may be made to Walmsley Blvd. United Methodist Church Building and Grounds Fund, 2950 Walmsley Boulevard, Richmond, VA 23234-2517.
