Obituary

Layton Jackson Johnson, Jr., 80, of Richmond, VA went to be with the Lord on Saturday, December 7, 2024. He is preceded in death by his parents Layton J. Johnson, Sr. and Lois S. Johnson.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Diane E. Johnson; daughters, Shelley J. Langford (Robert) and Kathy L. Henegar (Jerry); four grandchildren, Dale R. Langford (Rochelle), Molly Mae L. Brooks (Wesley), Ruby L. Vaught, and Brianna H. Springer (Conner); sister, Elizabath J. Henshaw (Sonny); and beloved cat, Callie.

Layton retired from the Reynolds Metals Co. after 30 years, which allowed him to travel the world. He enjoyed hunting and gardening in his spare time. He was a dedicated son, husband, father, and grandfather.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, December 12, 2024 at Morrissett Funeral & Cremation Service, 6500 Iron Bridge Rd, N. Chesterfield, VA 23234. His graveside service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, December 13, 2024 at Dale Memorial Park,10201 Newby’s Bridge Rd, Chesterfield, VA 23832. Online condolences at www.morrissett.com

  3. Enjoyed working with Layton at Reynolds for eight years 60s-70s, we had a great friendship at work and when off. Shot our bows and lifted weights every day at lunch break. Hunted at farm he and brother n law jointly owned in chesterfield cty. helped each other with personal projects. Have thought of those years often since, hard to believe we never kept up after I moved west. Interestingly I was just looking for contact info when I found this obit. prayers for

  4. So sorry to hear of Layton’s passing. We grew up in the same neighborhood. We both attended VCU (RPI back then) and he used to give me a ride to school most days. My condolences to his family.
