Obituary

Johnson, Layton Jackson, 87 of Chesterfield, went to be with the Lord on Friday, August 21, 2009. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Lois Schenck Johnson; son, Layton J. Johnson, Jr. and his wife Diane; daughter, Elizabeth J. Henshaw and her husband Sonny; sister, Mary Smoot; brothers, Martin L. and Bennie O. Johnson; grandchildren, Shelley Langford and her husband Robbie, Kathy Vaught; great-grandchildren, Dale Langford, Molly Langford, and Ruby Vaught. Layton served in the US Navy during WWII. He retired from E.I. Dupont after 35 years of service. The family will receive friends 6 to 8 pm on Monday at Morrissett Funeral Home, 6500 Iron Bridge Rd. (Rte. 10). His funeral service will be held 2 pm Tuesday at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Dale Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Sherbourne UMC, 2619 Sherbourne Road, Richmond, VA 23237.

  1. Kathy, You are so lucky to have had your grandfather in your life for so many years. Dave was telling me some stories of the "old man" this afternoon when he got his haircut. I’m so sorry for your loss but so happy you have so many years of memories to sustain you and your family.

    May God smile down on you and your family as you rememeber all the hapy times your family has shared over the long life of this much loved man. May His love reign down on you during your time of sadness and wipe the tears from your eyes, remember your grandfather for his humor and hugs, not his illness at the end.
