Leah McDaniel Pollard, 89 of Richmond VA., died September 27 after a brief illness, just 3 weeks shy of her 90th birthday. She and her husband, the late William C. Pollard, traveled extensively during their 59-year marriage; but she lived most of her life in the Virginia towns of Herndon, Pleasant Valley Arcola, Aldie, Purcellville, and lastly, Richmond. She was born to the late Margaret S. McDaniel and John B. McDaniel of Herndon, VA., and she graduated from Herndon High School before marrying her high school sweetheart. She was a wonderful cook, gardener, and a lifelong lover of animals, especially her beloved dog “Pepper” (deceased) and her recently acquired little rescue dog “Sugar”. Although she suffered in later years from COPD and Macular Degeneration, she continued knitting daily, visiting neighbors as she walked her dog and enjoying books on tape. She was a constant source of love and support to her five children: Sharon Jarrett, Billie Cecchini, Carol Hunt, Margret Purcell and Nola Watkins; as well as her thirteen grandchildren. She was also blessed to be survived by fifteen great-grandchildren and she will be sorely missed by all. Survivors also include her dear brother Jack McDaniel of Accokeek, Maryland. Services were private but Memorials may be sent to the Humane Society or Macular Degeneration Research.
