Obituary

Leonard “Len” Hollis Doty, 87, of Bracey, VA passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 2, 2024 at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital. Born February 1, 1937 in Key Ohio, he was the oldest of 12 children. Leonard lived a life full of service, love, and devotion to his family, friends, and country.

Len graduated from Belmont High School in 1955 in Belmont, Ohio.

He enlisted in the United State Army reserves and was called to active duty during the Berlin Crises. He served his country with honor and was honorably discharged on September 30, 1962. Leonard remained a proud veteran throughout his life, upholding the values of duty and service instilled in him during his military career.

During his career he worked on the I-64 construction project for Heckler Chevrolet Virginia Tractor, where he worked on emergency generators and electrical equipment. He was very proud of owning his own businesses, Prime Mover Service and Capital Generator Service. He later sold Capital Generator Service to Bay Diesel and continued to work for them for several years during the transfer of the business. He retired from Bay Diesel and moved to Tanglewood Shores in South Hill, VA.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Albert E. Doty and Wilma Weekley Doty, and his siblings Beverly, Maxine, Jean, Edgar, Joyce, Inez, and Sara (Sis).

Those left to cherish his memory include his loving children, Kim Bradley (AI) and Teri Roycroft (Glenn); his beloved grandchildren, Christian Frank and Mitchell Frank; and his surviving siblings, Kenny, Teddy, Allen, and Dora Lee. He is also remembered fondly by numerous nieces, nephews, and special friends whose lives he touched throughout the years.

Leonard’s legacy of service, love for his family, friends, and the pride in his country will forever be remembered. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
