Obituary

Marcia transitioned to eternal life on the afternoon of April 19th 2021 at Chippenham hospital in Richmond, Virginia in the presence of her wife and love of her life, Lynda, after a valiant battle with leukemia. Marcia was proceeded in death by her father, William Howard Adkins, and her two brothers William Howard Jr. and Ronald Eric Adkins. Her mother, Nanon Elizabeth Adkins, two sisters – Jessie Adell Adkins and Eulilia Scharlene Adkins, and cherished niece and nephew Antwon “Dinky”™ Adkins Davis and Kiaundra Patrice Davis mourn the loss of their beloved Marcia. A graduate from Richmond”™s John Marshall high school, Marcia first entered the workforce via Murphy”™s department store before she found her long-term career working at Dupont as a machine technician where she enjoyed a tight-knit group of friends that became her “work family.” Years following her divorce from Steven Evans, Marcia met Lynda Gilbertson in 1989 whom she later married in 2017 in an intimate home ceremony. Marcia could be described as “the spark.” The spark of connection between strangers, the spark of laughter that turns into a room full of belly laughs, the spark of kindness that leads to forgiveness, and the spark of love that transforms the darkest of life”™s moments into bright milestones and memories. Her love of food, music, and good people propelled her in often being “˜the life of the party,” and she often showed up dressed to the nines”¦ always with the perfect hat. She loved it cold, loved her chocolate, and loved the pets of her life, especially Magic, her chihuahua ““ and turtles Bonnie & Clyde. Never one to turn down a good romance book or movie, she was a soft-hearted woman that gave more than she ever took. Her extroverted, positive, and outgoing personality was a beautiful complement to Lynda”™s introverted nature. Over the last decade of her life, Lynda & Marcia launched their “Do The Jerk-ey” gourmet jerky business which brought success and joy to their last years together as they often spent the weekends operating their booth at local farmers markets and festivals. Marcia had an uncanny ability to reach people in a profound and positive way. All whom knew her were blessed with an authentic friendship that enhanced their life deeply. As a final request, Marcia hoped her loved ones would celebrate her life in a “bright, happy way.” As safety permits, there will be a party at her home where all who cared for and loved Marcia are welcomed and invited to share stories, enjoy food, support each other, and honor the spark of which is Marcia Denise Adkins.

  1. Marcis is and will always be loved by her family and friends.

  2. Freddy and I were sorry to hear that Marcia didn’t beat her cancer. She was a breathe of fresh air and always funny and had a great wit! It was so nice seeing so many folks across the community love their jerky and watching the business grow. Our entire community has lost a fun, joyful person and we are so sorry for the family and especially her wife, Lynda. We are so fond of both of them and pray for peace for the family and Lynda
