Obituary

Marshall Fleming Mallory died June 4, 2024. He battled cancer but doesn’t have to suffer any longer.

Marshall was born January 23, 1944, to Ivan and Jessie Mallory, and was so named to honor his mother’s maiden name. World War II was raging but a turning point would come on the shores of Normandy that same year.

Marshall was educated in Chesterfield County Virginia,  graduating from Midlothian High School in 1962. He went on to attend college at the University of Richmond,  earning a Bachelor’s of Science in Biology in 1966.

During the Vietnam War,  Marshall decided to enlist in the Army Reserve. After the war, he continued to serve his country,  with a short break in service for 21 years.

He married  Kathleen Watkins October 20, 1967. They were married for 55 years.

While his dream of becoming a doctor never came to fruition,  Marshall was a dedicated provider, working for the Virginia Employment Commission for 35 years. He provided for his family, often sacrificing vacation in order to make sure their needs were always met.

His passions in life besides his family, were working in the garden and reading historical and sci-fi books.

Marshall is survived by his daughter Elizabeth Melancon, his sons CPO Marshall and William, five grandchildren and one great grandchild plus many family and friends who loved him dearly.

There was a private funeral for the family on June 11. A Celebration of Life will also be given on the same day, at the Hopewell Congregational Methodist Church.
