Obituary
Martha Jane Horine, 99, of North Chesterfield, VA left her temporary home and went to be with the Lord on Saturday, February 1, 2025. She was born on January 9, 1926 in Bethlehem, Indiana to the late Walter Gentry and Grace Berry Holloway. She is also preceded in death by her beloved husband, Vincent Marrow Horine and her brothers and sisters.
She was survived by her children, Mary Jane Mellette, James Alan Horine (Priscilla), Rebecca Horine Gerlach (John), Beverly Horine Faulkner (Doug); grandchildren: Frank, Beth, Kathy, Travis, and Jennifer; a slew of great grandchildren; multiple great-great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Martha Jane Holloway Horine, known to we survivors as Mom, Grandma, Great Grandma, Great Great Grandma, Aunt, Great Aunt, friend, confidant, and gracious, loving lady. Her childhood home was Bethlehem, Indiana, a quiet village in Southern Indiana, along the Ohio River. Although she experienced no electricity nor interior plumbing, she did have a whole lot of love. She was very devoted to learning more about her faith in The Lord. She was an excellent student in grade school and high school. Her first work experience was clerical assistance in a gun powder manufacturing plant supporting WWII ammunition production. She married the love of her life just after the war and began their family. Martha worked as a school cafeteria cook and as a retail sales associate in J.C. Penney at Southside Plaza, Richmond, Virginia.
Widowed in 1982, she made the most of her tragedy of losing her husband by building a new life in her Lord Jesus Christ and became a faithful member of the Ampthill Presbyterian Church. In her senior years she later became an important part of Volunteer Services at Chippenham Hospital. She became a treasure to all who knew her and never lost her connection to her Hoosier family, friends, and loved ones. Martha was a true credit to her family, friends, community and nation during her short time on earth. She has no doubt reached The Promise of Life Ever Lasting with her Lord and loved ones. End.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. immediately followed by her funeral service on Wednesday, February 5, 2025 at Morrissett Funeral & Cremation Service, 6500 Iron Bridge Road, North Chesterfield, VA 23234

I’m so sorry for your loss. Martha was a dear, sweet, wonderful person. I have fond memories of Martha , my mom Violet Shelton and all the ladies of that era of Ampthill Presbyterian Church. My thoughts and prayers are with you. Debby
