Obituary

Mary Lou Galyen, 84, went home to be with the Lord on October 5, 2025. Mary Lou was born in Red Oak, Virginia on September 5^th, 1941. She loved to read, and enjoyed novels from James Patterson to Nora Roberts or Janet Evanovich, and everything in between. She was a fantastic cook who had an affinity for southern cooking and loved spending time with her family as a loving mother, grandmother, and aunt.

Mary Lou is survived by her daughters Rita (George) Rice, Trisha (Ronald) Brooks, and Deanna Garcia, sister Janice Lyman, niece Tracy (Chris) Applewhite, grandchildren Melissa (Brian) Morgan, Shannon (Jessie) Rice, Katie (Ryan) Caracciolo, Sarah (Chris) Roach, and Timmy (Karen) Garcia, as well as 12 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren and multiple nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Donald Galyen, parents Thomas and Mary “Nell” Setzer, brothers Thomas Setzer, Paul Setzer, and sisters Lillian Turner, and Judy Setzer.

Mary Lou’s public viewing will be held Thursday, 9th of October, 2025 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Morrissett Funeral & Cremation Service, 6500 Iron Bridge Rd, N. Chesterfield, VA 23234. Her graveside service will be held the following day, Friday, October 10th, 2025, at 10:00 AM at Dale Memorial Park, 10201 Newbys Bridge Rd, Chesterfield, VA 23832.
