Obituary
Melissa Anne Smith, 50, of Chester, VA went to be with the Lord on Saturday, September 7, 2024. She was born on March 15, 1974 to Therese A. Smith and the late Darnell P. Smith. Melissa is also preceded in death by numerous aunts and uncles.
She is survived by her beloved daughter, Keiara Taylor; mother, Therese A. Smith; sister, Tammie Smith; and aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Melissa was a very strong person who worked hard her whole life. She was a breast cancer survivor who won her battle with cancer in 2022. Being a mother to Keiara brought her so much joy, and she would have done anything for her and others she loved. She was also someone who loved to talk whether that be to her family, her friends, and even strangers. She could tell stories, and you always walked away in a better mood after speaking with her. She worked in bank customer service for over 26 years where she had many coworkers, lots of whom became lifelong friends. Just like her mother and sister, Melissa loved Disney and just like she was, her favorite character was Goofy. She was also very creative and loved crafting, especially with loved ones, making decor, keepsakes, and other pretty things. She will be remembered fondly as the beautiful, resilient, wonderful, mother, daughter, sister, and friend she was.
Her memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 21, 2024 at Morrissett Funeral & Cremation Service, 6500 Iron Bridge Road, North Chesterfield, VA 23234.

My heart is heavy for Keiara and family. Keiara your mom loved you more than life itself. As long as she knew you were good, strong, and happy, she was happy. When ever she spoke of you which was everytime we spoke, her eye’s lit up. She is very proud of you. I am so sorry for your loss. She will be missed. I am still in shock that she is gone. I will truly miss our talks and crafts we did at work. She was truly inspirational and creative. She was my friend.

Dear Melissa, there’s so much I want to say. You and became a new Mom within a week of each other in Y2K aka 2000. Your daughter is beautiful like you, and will carry on your legacy. I miss you my friend.
