Obituary

Melissa Gretchen Jones, 65, of Chester, Virginia, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, November 24, 2024. Born on June 1, 1959, in Syracuse, New York, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Gretchen Johnson.

Melissa worked in the banking industry for 10 years before dedicating over 30 years of her life to serving others as a compassionate and skilled Registered Nurse. Throughout her diverse and accomplished career, she made a lasting impact on countless lives. Beyond her professional life, Melissa was a devoted volunteer with the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF), offering her time and energy to a cause close to her heart.

She found great joy in life’s simple pleasures: cheering for her cherished Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday afternoons, attending concerts and live theater, and creating beautiful memories during her travels, particularly to the Outer Banks. Above all, she treasured the time she spent with her family.

Melissa is preceded in death by her brother, Aric Johnson. She leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and devotion, carried on by her daughter, Kayla Melissa Jones; her son, Richard “RJ” Hamilton Jones III; her lifelong partner, Steve Burke; and her sister, Janna Cummings (Bob).

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Melissa’s life on Friday, December 6, 2024. The family will receive visitors from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM, followed by a 12:00 PM memorial service at Morrissett Funeral & Cremation Service – 6500 Iron Bridge Road, North Chesterfield, VA 23234. A graveside service will take place at 2:00 PM at Centralia Cemetery – 10000 Hopkins Road, Chester, VA 23831.
