Obituary
Michael John Kammerman, lovingly known to nearly everyone as Mike, passed away on February 10, 2026, at the age of 57.
Mike was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, educator, and friend whose steady presence and generous heart left a lasting impression on all who knew him. He is survived by his beloved wife, Jennie Kammerman; his daughter, Jessica Alderman, and her husband, Josh Alderman; and his son, Michael Timothy Kammerman, and his wife, Kaitlyn Kammerman. He was a proud grandfather to Carter Kammerman and was eagerly awaiting the arrival of his second grandson, Ashton Kammerman, due in May 2026, a blessing he spoke of often and with great excitement.
He is also survived by his siblings, Sarah, Stacy, and Matthew, and by his lifelong best friend, Tony Coulliard, whom he regarded as a brother. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bentley Kammerman and Alice Elaine Kammerman.
Mike began his career in service to others after graduating from Yale’s Paramedic Program in Connecticut, dedicating himself early on to helping those in moments of crisis. After relocating to Virginia, he joined the MCV hospital system, where his impact grew exponentially. In 2009, he joined the Department of Nurse Anesthesia as the Simulation Coordinator. Through dedication, leadership, and a passion for adult education, he rose to become the Director of Simulation for the Department of Nurse Anesthesia at Virginia Commonwealth University.
At the time of his passing, Mike was actively working toward completing his master’s degree, driven by his desire to better serve his students and elevate the field he cared so deeply about. Mike was known throughout the program for his calming, steady, almost fatherly presence. The kind of person who could bring peace to a room of students simply by walking into it. Students and colleagues alike knew they could rely on him for a listening ear, thoughtful guidance, or words of comfort when they needed them most.
Outside of his professional life, Mike’s passions were just as strong. He was a loyal fan of the Los Angeles Rams, standing by his team through every season. No greater fan of Pink Floyd could be found; their music was a constant soundtrack to his life and one of the many ways he connected with those he loved.
A celebration of life is planned for Saturday, March 7, 2026, and will include family, friends, colleagues, and students. Additional details will be announced.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice in Mike’s name.

My Uncle Mikey was one in a million. He was an amazing human being with one of the warmest teddy bear hearts and he wasn’t afraid to show it. He led his life as such a wonderful example to me and so many others. He was a man of his word, a man of great morals, a man I am proud to have as my Uncle.
He was fiercely loving and protective of his wife and children and all of us lucky enough to be his family. Although he was very tender hearted, he was also very no-nonsense when needed. He made sure I knew if I was hurting, I could turn to him for trusted advice and wisdom and comfort. I always felt so safe with him. I’ll always cherish being able to attend his daughter’s wedding and see how proud he was as a father and husband that day. The sunshine sparkled in his caring eyes as they held happy tears. And how even after 30 years, he still called Aunt Jennie his bride and he would say it often and with so much pride and joy.
The way he loved my Aunt Jennie was a legendary love, one usually only found in fairytales. For 30 years of marriage he walked the walk and talked the talk of the most loving husband, and best friend and so much more. Their lifetime partnership in love is something we all aspire to. He embodied love, he didn’t just say love. He WAS love.
He found his destined career path and emboldened his field with his brilliant ideas and an unsurpassable talent and professionalism. Nobody could deny his passion for the work he did, and all of the incredible minds he inspired will continue to make a positive impact in the medical field. His work was such a huge part of his legacy.
Although he took his work very seriously, he was also so very playful as well. He enjoyed all things sci-fi, golfing, cooking, soccer and football games, a nice glass of whiskey with an occasional cigar, woodworking, and tinkering around the house and of course making others laugh. I loved his style of humor, and I’ll miss his laughter and the dimples he had when he smiled.
The last thing he said to me was that he was hugging me so tight in his mind. And I vow today that in my mind I will keep hugging him back for always.
We love you so much Uncle Mikey! You will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure to know you.
