Obituary

Michael Lynn Turner, 73, of Chester, Virginia, passed away peacefully at his home on February 9, 2026.

Born December 16, 1952, in Decatur, Illinois, Michael proudly served in the United States Marine Corps from 1971 to 1975 and continued in the Marine Corps Reserve until 1977, achieving the rank of Sergeant. He later built a respected career as a certified carpenter and longtime member of Local Union 205, contributing to the construction of schools, hospitals, and churches throughout Virginia.

On October 11, 1978, he married Ok Yon “Yogi,” and together they shared 47 years of devoted marriage. They moved to Virginia in 1983 and established their home in Chester in 1993. Their union was blessed with two children, Tanya and John.

A man of strong faith, Michael taught Sunday School and worshiped faithfully throughout his life, most recently as a member of Harrogate Worship Center in Chesterfield. He was also a lifelong student of history and a black belt in martial arts.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Betty and Jamie Turner, and his sister, Cheryl Songer.

Michael is survived by his beloved wife, Yogi; daughter Tanya Turner (and grandson Atticus); son John Turner; mother-in-law Beverly Nelan; sister Noreen Peck (Larry); brothers Gary and Sean Turner; and many extended family members and friends.

He will be remembered for his strength, dedication, faith, and deep love for his family.
