Obituary

Frances “Frankie” Fowler Sprouse passed away peacefully on August 18, 2024. Frankie was born on February 25, 1933, in Rome, Georgia. She is predeceased by her husband of 72 years, Raymond M. “Buddy” Sprouse; her parents, Mabel Beatrice Autry and Clint Fowler; sister, Imogene Sanders; and niece, Evelyn Dolbow. She is survived by her two daughters, Brenda Howell and Susan Dyke (Butch); four grandchildren, Andrew (Kara), Adam (Victoria), Matthew, and Emily; and extended family and friends.

She moved to Virginia while in the 6th grade and spent the rest of her life in Virginia. She married Buddy in July 1951. Frankie proudly worked as a Fingerprint Technician for the Virginia Department of State Police and retired in 1974 after 21½ years of service.

Frankie was a longtime member of Southside Baptist Church and the Dale Fire Department Women’s Auxiliary. She also was a big part of the Dale Ruritan Club, helping to prepare meals at all of the community functions.

Frankie was an avid cat lover and also enjoyed playing the piano, gardening, canning pickles and tomatoes, and cooking for her family. She was a devoted wife, mother and doting grandmother to her four grandchildren.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff of The Barrington and the caregivers with Inspiritas, as well as Serenity Hospice. A memorial gathering will be held from 6:00-8:00 pm on Thursday, September 5 at Morrissett Funeral & Cremation Service, 6500 Iron Bridge Rd., N. Chesterfield, VA 23234. Frankie’s memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, September 6 at Transformation Church, 6000 Iron Bridge Rd., N. Chesterfield, VA 23234. Burial will be private.
