Obituary
Norma Jean O’Dell Sears, 93, of North Chesterfield, Virginia, went home to be with her Lord on October 1, 2024. She was born in Nicholas County, West Virginia on October 7, 1930. She was predeceased by her loving husband of 56 years Jay Evans Sears, Curl B. and Donna Hughes O’Dell (parents), Karen O’Dell and Dorothea O’Dell Simmons (sisters). She is survived by her three loving children; Steve E. Sears (Diane), Katherine S. McMillian (Michael), and Stony G. Sears (Janis). She is also survived by four grandchildren; Shannon Sears, Stephanie S. Harrelson, Jeremy McMillian and Julie M. Williams. She has one great grandchild, Tiffany Kaylie Harrelson. Her surviving immediate family members are Shirley O’Dell Vance (sister), Danny L. O’Dell (brother), and seven nieces and nephews.
Norma retired from Allied Chemical Company and lead a very active life. She and her daughter, Kathryn, carried on the legacy of Jay Sears News Service Organization following the passing of her husband Jay. She adored her church and church family at Clover Hill Baptist Church. She was always ready for every church Seniors trip. She was an avid gardener and an expert cook and hostess. She was famous for her food preservation skills from her home-grown garden and highly regarded for her ability to prepare and host quick fabulous meals. She always strived to spend time with her children and grandchildren and her love of travel is summarized in her email address: mybagsarepacked. Norma was always known as, MeMaw Norma, to everyone she encountered. She fearlessly convinced a Veteran friend of the family, Jack Webster, to take her for several rides on the back of a Harley Davidson Motorcycle at the age of 90. Many wonderful memories will be cherished by her family. The entire Sears family would like to express how much they love and appreciate, Michelle Clodfelter, LPN., for the many hours that she cared for Norma. Norma absolutely adored Michelle caring for her in such a loving manner. We would also like to thank the Legacy Hospice organization and the wonderful nurses Allie Harris, RN and Kelly Dickerson, RN for their personalized professional care for Norma and the wonderful emotional support they provided for the family members who cared for her.
