Obituary
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Raymond Cash, a loving husband, devoted father, cherished papa, and faithful servant of the Lord. A proud veteran of the US Navy, he was a man of deep compassion, unwavering faith, and boundless generosity who left a lasting impact on everyone he met.
Ray is survived by his beloved wife, Audrey, his rock and partner in life and faith. He was a proud father to Ray (Nerissa), Christy (Joe), and Julie (John), and a treasured Papa to Abby (Tanner), Jack, Tyler, Ella, and Sophia. He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Pansy, and his sister Sharon, and is survived by his brother-in-law Larry, nephews Jesse and Daniel (Kelly), and many other cherished family members and friends.
Ray was the father, uncle, and friend who welcomed everyone into his home. He loved to entertain, cook a great meal, share a laugh, and make people feel like family. He was the kind of man who would give you the shirt off his back, the one who showed up, cared deeply, and always made you feel seen and valued.
He was a wonderful husband and father, and simply the best Papa—his grandchildren were his greatest joy. He celebrated every accomplishment, cheered from the sidelines at every game, and never missed a moment to be present in their lives. Their happiness enriched his own, and his love and pride for them were endless.
A devoted Christian, Ray lived his faith through acts of kindness, humility, and service. In Chesterfield, he was a cornerstone of youth sports. As a longtime referee for the Chesterfield Quarterback League, his integrity inspired the creation of the Annual Sportsmanship Award in his name. He was also a respected youth softball umpire, earning induction into the Virginia USSSA Umpire Hall of Fame. He also helped found the Kingsland Baptist Upward Youth Basketball League, where he blended faith and athletics to help shape the character and spirit of hundreds of young athletes.
Ray’s life was marked by faith, love, humor, and service. His devotion to family and community was unmatched, and his memory will live on in the countless lives he touched.
A celebration of his life will be held on Friday, May 23, 2025, at 11 a.m. at Swift Creek Baptist Church, 7511 North Spring Run Road, Midlothian, VA. The family will receive visitors beginning at 10 a.m., and a small time for fellowship will follow after the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Ray’s favorite organizations, St. Jude’s, the American Heart Association, or the Chesterfield Food Bank.
