Obituary
Meadows, Richard L., Sr., 66 of Chesterfield, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, August 29, 2009. He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph A. Meadows, Jr. of Crewe and Shenandoah; stepfather, Jack K. Templeton of Newport News. Dick is survived by his loving, devoted wife, Sarah Bunny Meadows; mother, Phyllis M. Templeton; son, Richard L. Meadows, Jr.; brothers, Joe Meadows and his wife Donna, Doug Meadows and his wife Pat; stepsons, Eugene and Edward Stanley; granddaughter, Margo; step-granddaughters, Lacey, Stephanie, Samantha, Helen, and Sallie Stanley. Dick was a graduate of Virginia Tech. Foremost among his many accomplishments as a member of the Corps of Cadets were his membership in the Gregory Guard, his command in the Arnold Air Society, his major on the regimental staff, and his cherished fellowship with the Golden As. He went on to pilot the C-130 aircraft as a captain in the U.S. Air Force. Stationed in the Philippines, his missions took him to and from Vietnam during the height of the war. He continued flying after his duty with the Air Force Reserve. He later worked for Travelers Insurance Company and Rhyne Contractors. Dick’s avid love of fishing and hunting was shared with his brothers throughout his life and will surely be missed by those big bass and deer. The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday at Morrissett Funeral Home, 6500 Iron Bridge Rd. (Rte. 10). A celebration of his life will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Crewe Cemetery, Crewe, VA at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Hospice of Virginia, 7231 Forest Ave., Suite 100, Richmond, VA 23226.

If the stature of a man can be known by the quality and character of his son, Mr. Meadows must have been a giant among men. Rick’s colleagues and friends in Berea extend our heartfelt sympathy to your family at this time.

We Davis siblings (Donald Kent and Marian Elizabeth) have fond memories of the Meadows boys who lived across the street (West Maryland Avenue referred to as "Potlikker) in Crewe. In our family "archives" are photos and videos that include the Meadows boys playing in our yard.
Condolences to Dickie’s wife and family, to his mother Phyllis, and to Cephie and Doug.
Wonderful memories shared but not lost. You will remain in our thoughts and prayers.

My thoughts and prayers are with Dick’s family at this time. He was a good friend of mine in high school, and we had lots of fun times. I always admired him . . . a fine person, good athlete, and outstanding student. I always looked forward to seeing him, Doug, and Joe at Homecomings in Crewe and seeing Dick at our class reunions. He will be missed but will live on in our thoughts.
