Obituary

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Richard Osborne Rowland, 89, of Chesterfield, VA, on August 15, 2025. Born on February 29, 1936, in Frederick, VA, Richard was the beloved son of the late Dalton and Marjorie Rowland.

Richard led a life marked by service, curiosity, and family. He proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War, demonstrating a steadfast commitment to his country. His faith was a guiding force throughout his life, and he was a devoted member of Oak Grove Baptist Church in Meadowbrook, VA.

Richard’s passions were as vibrant as his personality. He found joy in traveling—especially his memorable trip to Italy—capturing life through photography, connecting with others via ham radios, and marveling at the beauty of trains.

He is survived by his children: Donna Gonzalez (Allen) of Tallahassee, FL, and Bryan Rowland (Jody) of Richmond, VA, from his first marriage to the late Barbara Rowland. He is also survived by his late wife Judith B. Rowland’s children, Alan and Judy. Richard leaves behind 4 grandchildren: Sawyer (Hayley) and Rylee Gonzalez, and Jamie (his wife) and Emily Rowland; and 3 great-grandchildren: Chase and Alice Gonzalez, and Rosylyn Rowland. He is also survived by his brother, Kenneth Lee Rowland of Front Royal, VA.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Dalton and Marjorie Rowland; his brothers, Charles and Allen Rowland; and his beloved wives, Barbara and Judith Rowland. Richard will be remembered for his gentle spirit, his love of adventure, and the enduring kindness he showed to all who knew him. His legacy lives on in the hearts of his family and friends.

A visitation for Richard will be held on August 25, 2025 at Morrissett Funeral & Cremation Service, 6500 Iron Bridge Rd, North Chesterfield, VA 23234, from 10:00 am – 11:30 am followed by an interment at Sunset Memorial Park, 2901 W. Hundred Rd, Chester, VA 23831 at 12:00 pm.
