Obituary

Robert Earl Atkins, 74, of Chesterfield County, Virginia passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 16, 2025. Robert loved the Lord and his family. He was a member of Walthall Baptist Church of Colonial Heights, Virginia. He served his country as a member of the Army. He retired after many years as a truck mechanic. He worked several years as a driver for different car dealerships after his retirement. Bobby loved classic cars especially mustangs and drag raced for over 40 years. He also loved karaoke.

Robert is survived by his devoted wife, Deborah J. Atkins; son, Robert Earl Stancil of Dinwiddie; grandchildren, Haley, Keelyn, and Crystal; great grandchild, Elena; brothers, Larry Wayne Atkins (Brenda) and Gary Lee Atkins; sisters-in-law, Kathy Atkins, Nancy Shoeps, Louise Atkins, and family; stepsons, David A. Shifflett II (Paula), Matthew B. Shifflett (Amy), and family; brothers-in-law, John Shurey (Natalie) and family; and numerous loving nieces and nephew, and extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Linwood Clyde Atkins; mother, Annie Bell Atkins; sister, Millie Bilotta; and brothers, James Clyde Atkins, Edward Allen Atkins, Bruce Daniel Atkins, and Richard Bell Atkins.

The family will receive guest from 10:00-11:00 am with Robert’s funeral service to follow at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 23rd at Walthall Baptist Church, 14001 Woods Edge Road, Colonial Heights, VA 23834. A private graveside service will be held at Virginia Veterans Cemetery in Amelia. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Bobby’s memory to Walthall Baptist Church, 14001 Woods Edge Road, Colonial Heights, VA 23834.
