Obituary

Spencer, Robert Obadiah, Jr., R.O., 72, of Chesterfield, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, December 30, 2010, at his home with his family by his side. Born in Richmond, he was the son of the late Robert O. Obie, Sr., and Gladys Farmer Spencer. Robert was a US Navy veteran. He was a local businessman and presently owned and operated Spencer Trucking, Inc. He was a member of Beulah United Methodist Church, and was closely connected with the Word Seekers Sunday School Class, who were like a second family. He had a keen interest in cars and trucks, and knew as a child that he wanted to own his own business and that trucks would be involved. He also enjoyed football, baseball, and go-kart racing with his family, and taught them the value of playing to win, which is still continued today. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Lynda Williams Spencer; and two children, son, Allan L. Spencer and his wife, Angela of Midlothian; daughter, Sharon S. Moorefield and her husband, Willie of Glen Allen. He was blessed with six grandchildren, Lauren, Dallas, and Suzanne Spencer, Colby, Jordan, and Carter Moorefield. He is also survived by a brother, James G. Spencer, Sr., of Chesterfield; and two sisters, Jean S. Fulghum of Chesterfield, Nancy S. Primm and her husband, Larry of Prattville, AL; several nephews; and many loving friends and family. The family will receive friends 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., Saturday, January 1, 2011, at Morrissett Funeral Home, 6500 Iron Bridge Rd. (Rt. 10), Richmond. Funeral services will be held 3 p.m., Sunday, at Beulah United Methodist Church, 6930 Hopkins Rd., Richmond. Interment private. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Beulah United Methodist Church in Robert’s memory.
