Obituary

Robert “Bob” “Bubba” Reid Perkins, 78, of Chesterfield, passed away on Monday, September 2, 2024. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Diane Aronberg Perkins, his three children Michelle Perkins Lange, Kimberly Perkins Hamm (Glenn), and Zachary Austin Perkins (Liddy), and three grandchildren, William Hamm, Everett Hamm, and SiSi Lange. He is also survived by his brother-in-law, Ralph Aronberg; nieces, Pamela (Keith) Donnelly, Brenda (Eric) Gass, and Anna (Larry) Carter, and Ashley Aronberg; nephew Ryan (Maggie) Aronberg; and numerous cousins and extended family members, all of whom were close to his heart.

Bob was a graduate of Manchester High School, Class of 1964, and Virginia Commonwealth University, Class of 1971. He served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War, where he was stationed aboard the USS America. During his time at sea, he earned the Order of Magellan for circumnavigating the globe. His military honors include the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Navy Unit Commendation Award, and the Vietnam Campaign Medal. In his professional life, Bob worked at Dunville, Hill-Phoenix, and SESCO, where he forged lifelong friendships.

He was renowned for his humor, sharp wit, timely jokes, and love of quizzing family and friends on Classic Rock trivia. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed keeping up with Washington football and baseball teams.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 7th at Branch’s Baptist Church, located at 3400 Broad Rock Blvd, Richmond, VA. The family will receive friends for visitation at 2:00 PM followed by a 3:00 PM funeral service and subsequent burial service at the church cemetery. A reception will be held in the church social hall after the service.

Robert “Bubba” was preceded in death by his parents, William Hugh “Jiggs” and Dessie Chatham Perkins, his brother Thomas Wayne Perkins and his sister-in-law, Carolyn B. Perkins, and their daughter, Mary Kay Perkins.

  3. Diane, Bob was a dear friend and shipmate during our time aboard the USS America. We Shared many great times, many laughs and became very close friends. he was one of few close friends in my Division during the three years we served together (’67-70′).
