Obituary

Robert Ward Almond, Jr. 77 years old died, unexpectedly July 29, 2024.

He is survived by his wife, Beverly Faris Almond, son Robert Ward Almond III and his wife Paula, daughters Wendy Anderson and Katie Cartwright. He was incredibly proud to be Grandpa to Taylor and Chris Hawkins, Austin Anderson, Jack Anderson, Ray Almond, Erin Almond, Elliott Cartwright and Ian Cartwright. Survivors also include siblings June and Mike Brunner, John and Linda Almond, Vi Dodd, Regina and Tom Albro, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Robert was predeceased by his parents Robert Sr. and Norma (Tribble) Almond, sisters Barbara Carr and Betty Claybrook, brother Kenneth, and several close in-laws he considered family.

His parents, siblings, and friends from Manchester High School and the Woodstock neighborhood called him Bubba. Professionally, and to people he met as an adult, he was Bob. His wife, and those who knew him through her, called him Robert. As a HAM radio operator from the age of 16 he was recognized as WA4DeltaFoxtrotIndia.

Bob’s passion for all things electronic was in his DNA.He spent his adult life involved with two-way radio installation, marine electronics, and television repair before he retired as an electronic AV tech with Chesterfield County Public Schools. He enjoyed his work and took pride in providing for his family.

His hazel eyes lit up at the chance to swap stories or jokes and he was equally inspired and energized when talking with older acquaintances and younger generations.

Sitting around the kitchen table at Beverly’s house always brings back many fond memories from 60+ years ago and sitting around that very same table.. One of the more recent highlights was always when Robert would come in from one of his numerous outside projects and sit and talk with us. His thoughts and perspectives always challenged my mind and helped me think about things in different ways. I am a better person from having spent those times with Robert and I am honored to call him “Friend”. I will miss you, my brother.

  3. Our family was blessed to be neighbors and lifelong friends of the Almond family. Bob was always coming up with some new way to tease our two young daughters and they believed almost all of his tales. My father and Bob were relentless in sharing jokes with each other. (“Did you hear the one about….?”) Those sessions could go on for more than a few minutes! Bob also had much appreciated handyman skills and helped us out on more than one occasion with his “Mister Fix It” assistance. (He was much more successful taking things apart and putting them back together than my surgeon husband!) We are so saddened that this old planet will be without his physical and jovial presence. His joie d’ vivre and many kindnesses will live on in our hearts and memories. We are so grateful that you shared him with us. We are sending our love and prayers for Beverly, Ward, and Wendy and your extended families who we know will miss him even more than we can imagine. May God bless and comfort you in the days ahead.
With our love and prayers, ♥
    Steve, Suzanne, Laura, and Melanie
