Obituary

Rochus McDowell “Mac” Ritchie, Jr., 84, of Chesterfield, Virginia, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on July 1, 2026, following a hard-fought battle with both cancer and dementia. Mac was a loving husband, father and grandfather. Mac is survived by his wife of 63 years, Nancy Coley Ritchie; 2 daughters, Sharon Ritchie Osborne (husband Timothy Osborne) and Jennifer Ritchie Ashby (husband Shawn Ashby). Mac is also survived by his 2 grandchildren whom he adored and made him so proud, Emily McDowell Osborne and Bradyn William Ashby.

Mac was a pioneer in the cardiac device/ aortic surgery industry, with a long and distinguished career spanning 50+ years. His knowledge, professionalism and commitment to both colleagues and friends is unmatched. His leadership, guidance and support made him an invaluable colleague and mentor and he loved watching everyone succeed. Mac was a true Southern Gentleman, known for his generosity and humor and will be missed by all who knew him.

No formal service or funeral will be held, though the family will hold a private celebration of life at a later date. Friends and family are encouraged to remember Mac in their own special way.
