Obituary

Ronald Earl Ricketts, Sr., 84, of Midlothian, Va. passed away on Wednesday, January 20, 2021. He is preceded in death by his father, George Minor Ricketts; mother, Elva Gray Ricketts; grandson, Taylor Grow; and brother, Steven Gray Ricketts. He is survived by his loving wife, Dorothy Ricketts; his daughters, Cherie Holshouser, Pamela Lynn Hoke (John); son, Ronald Earl Ricketts, Jr. (Julie); stepdaughter, Tracy Grow; grandchildren, William Nowell (Briana), Michael Holshouser, Christopher Holshouser (Bethany Licciardi), David Hoke, Alex Grow (Kimberly Adkins), Alexa Hoke (Nicholas McCullaugh), Sean Michael Grow; and 5 great-grandchildren; and mother of his children, Mary Davis Ricketts. Ron was a decorated Army war veteran of the Vietnam War, and Army Special Forces Green Beret Team Sergeant. He enlisted in 1959 and retired in 1997 as a Sergeant E-8. He was an avid history buff, a Redskins and UVA fan, enjoyed running and camping, had an interest in model trains, and a love for animals. He used his drawing talent to spread joy through his hand drawn cards to family. A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, June 26, 2021 at Morrissett Funeral and Cremation Service, 6500 Iron Bridge Rd. N. Chesterfield, Va. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions be made in his name to Wounded Warriors Project, www.woundedwarriorproject.org/, Richmond Animal League, www.ral.org/ or Dementia Society of America, www.dementiasociety.org/.
