Remembering Roy Lynn Wallace

Roy Lynn Wallace, 81, of Chesterfield, Virginia, passed away peacefully in his sleep on July 12, 2026, while residing at Emporia Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center.

Early Life and Family

Roy was born in Fulton, New York, on June 30, 1945, to the late Georgia Wallace and John Grant Wallace. He was one of nine children. Six siblings preceded him in death: Louis, Jean, Jesse, Sandra, Richard, and John.

He is survived by his wife of over 20 years, Jackie Wallace; his daughters, Joy Lynn Long (Chris) and Cynthia Marie Trice (Jimmy); and his grandchildren, Kasey Shea (John), Justin Trice, Rebecca Trice (Joel Mackie), Grant Lilly, and Chase Lilly. He is also survived by three great-grandchildren, Evan Shea, Emma-Kate Shea, and William Lilly; two siblings, Elsie and Dennis; and many nieces and nephews.

Through his wife, Jackie, Roy also had a stepdaughter, Tracie Howe (David Hunn), as well as a grandson, Henry Hunn. His granddaughter, Zoey Hunn, preceded him in death.

Work, Service, and the Life He Shared

Roy retired from the railroad, where he was affectionately known by his crew as “the Gov.” He loved telling funny stories from those years and carried that same humor and warmth into the rest of his life.

He enjoyed selling trucks, helping people find jobs, and making friends wherever he went. He also dabbled in local politics and was known for connecting easily with others.

Roy’s encouragement left a lasting mark on his family. He was the reason his daughter Cynthia became a registered nurse, and his son-in-law Jimmy became a career firefighter. He also shared a special love of games and playing cards with his eldest daughter, Joy Lynn.

Roy proudly served in the U.S. Marines and will be laid to rest at Virginia Veterans Cemetery in Amelia. A service will be held there at a future date to be determined, and the family welcomes all who wish to attend.

A Lasting Memory

Roy will be remembered for the silly little handwritten notes he left behind for loved ones, often signed beside a drawn smiley face stick person with his familiar phrase: “See You.”

With the help of our Lord, we will see you again.

A graveside service with military honors will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 30, 2026 at The Virginia Veterans Cemetery at Amelia, 10300 Pridesville Road, Amelia Court House, VA 23002.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to Tunnel to Towers foundation (T2T.org) in Roy’s name.
