Obituary

Roy Preston Hartless, Sr., 82 and 364 days, of North Chesterfield, Virginia, went fishing with the Lord on Sunday, October 1, 2023. He was born in Lynchburg, Virginia on October 2, 1940, to the late Grover Myers Hartless and Cora Lee Tomlin. Roy was also preceded in death by the two loves of his life, Betty Lou McCauley and Dilsey Virginia Barden, and his daughters, Donna Arnette Hartless and Sherry Hartless Wade. 

Roy served in the United States Navy as part of the United States Naval Construction Battalion (Seabees), earning the Navy Medal of Achievement and the National Defense Service Medal. 

A stone mason by trade, Roy was also a talented musician, champion bowler, bird-watcher and plant lover. He enjoyed watching NASCAR and football, but also loved being outside. He was a dedicated member of the Beulah United Methodist Church and the Ruritan Club. 

Roy leaves behind three children, Diane Pauline Dickerson, Roy Preston Hartless, Jr., and Mark Allan Hartless (Shonica), nine grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and one great, great grandchild.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Beulah United Methodist Church, 6930 Hopkins Road, Richmond, Virginia 23234 on Saturday, November 4, 2023, at 11:00 a.m., followed by reception in the Fellowship Hall.

  2. To everyone who knew Roy, thank you for all you did for him in the past few years. I’m thanking you on behalf of my last sister Virginia. She loved Roy so much and I know she is so thankful that he had some wonderful people that looked out for him. As for me I’m so thankful that he found the Lord and now I know I will see him again.
    To the family – I’m so sorry and my heart is very heavy that I didn’t know about Roy’s home going until last night (11/7/23) when a friend of my daughters let her know.
    Rest in peace… my good looking (ex) brother-in-law 😉 …see ya soon!!
