Obituary
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Skylar Mackenzie Vargo, 23, who went home to be with her Heavenly Father on July 9, 2026.
Skylar was born in Chesterfield, Virginia, on June 20, 2003. She spent her life in the Chesterfield area, attending Matoaca High School, earning her Medical Assistant Certification (NRCMA) and finding employment and fulfillment at Mechanicsville Medical Center. Skylar received two presidential awards during high school for her outstanding academic achievements. She had an incredible talent for art, specifically drawing, which she always found could help calm her mind.
Skylar embraced life with enthusiasm, always choosing to live it to the fullest. She approached each day with courage, independence, and an unwavering determination to stay true to herself. Her strength of will was matched only by the compassion she showed to others. Whether a friend needed a listening ear, a helping hand, or simply someone to stand beside them, Skylar was always there without hesitation.
Her love for animals was a reflection of her generous heart. One of her greatest joys was rescuing her beloved pit bull, Diesel, who became not only her faithful companion but also a testament to the love and second chances she believed every living being deserved.
The Outer Banks held a special place in Skylar’s heart. The sound of the waves, the salty breeze, and the endless horizon brought her a sense of peace and happiness that she cherished. It was there that she felt most at home, surrounded by the beauty and serenity of the ocean she loved so deeply.
Skylar will forever be remembered for her infectious laugh and radiant smile that could light up any room. She had a remarkable ability to make people feel welcomed, valued, and loved simply by being herself. Her warmth, humor, and genuine spirit created lasting memories that will continue to bring comfort to those who knew her.
Though her time with us was far too short, Skylar leaves behind a legacy of compassion, resilience, and love. She taught those around her to embrace life wholeheartedly, to care deeply for others, and to find joy in life’s simple moments.
She will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten. Her spirit lives on in the hearts of her family, friends, and all whose lives were made brighter by knowing her.
Skylar is preceded in death by her grandfather, Edward F. Pastor; grandmother, Linda V. Vargo; and godmother, Kellie Spear. She is survived by her mother, Karen Pastor-Vargo; stepfather, Douglas Hilton, Sr.; father, James Vargo; stepmother, Michelle Saunders; grandfather, George Vargo, Sr.; godfather, Steven Vargo; siblings, Hayden Vargo, Ryan Saunders, Sierra Saunders; various aunts and uncles, many cousins, and her fur baby, Diesel.
A visitation will be held at Morrissett Funeral and Cremation Service, 6500 Iron Bridge Road, North Chesterfield, Virginia 23234, on Saturday, July 18th from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Skylar’s name to the Richmond Animal Care and Control – Tommie Fund.
