Obituary

Sophia Artis Gee transitioned to be with the Lord on October 12, 2025, at St Francis Medical Center. She was born February 21,1966, in Stony Creek VA to the late George W. Artis and Julia M. Newsome Artis. Sophia was preceded in death by her brother, George Carol Artis, and her nephews, Darius, Kamah, Mikal, and Shaun.

Left to cherish her memory is her devoted husband, Brock Gee. They shared 28 wonderful years together, filled with love and joy. Sophia also leaves behind one very special and loving daughter, Jada, who brought immense pride and happiness to her life.

As the youngest in her family, Sophia always knew what she wanted and wasn’t afraid to express it. She graduated from John Tyler College and J. Sargeant Reynolds College, where she earned her Registered Nurse Degree. Sophia dedicated her career to caring for senior citizens and touched many lives through her compassion and professionalism.

She is also survived by her brother, Larry Artis (Margie) Richmond, VA; her sisters, Frances Reed (Timmy) Stony Creek, VA, Hadiyah Ahmad (Nadir) Detroit, MI, Elaine Clifford (Dale) Tampa, FL, Rose Gupton Richmond, VA, Doris Reiseg (Greg) Reading, PA, Vera Artis, and Carliss Artis, Richmond, VA, aunt, Margie Brown New York, NY; sister in law, Monica Roye of Georgia and her devoted nephews, Askia, Derrick, Jamille, and Raymond.

A host of Nieces, Nephews, Cousins, and Close Friends will also cherish her memory.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to the doctors, nurses, and staff at St. Francis Medical Center in Midlothian, Virginia, as well as to Sophia’s coworkers and staff at Tyler’s Retreat in Chesterfield, Virginia. We are deeply grateful to all the friends and visitors who called, came by, prayed, and shared kind words of comfort during this time.

The family will receive guests on Saturday, November 1 from 1:00-2:00 pm with Sophia’s service to follow at 2:00 pm at Morrissett Funeral & Cremation Service, 6500 Iron Bridge Rd., N. Chesterfield, VA 23234.
